“Suchitra is perhaps thinking, how to live with this man for the next 25 years to celebrate the Golden Anniversary,” cracked Bishop Gollapalli before he administered the Marriage Vows at our Silver Wedding Anniversary on February 12. Gollapalli is one of those few persons in the world who has this liberty of laughing at my expense and vice versa, because of our long time friendship.

Bishop Gollapalli shares a lighter moment
There was a blend of participants from ministers to ministry heads, businessmen, police and the lawyers. The Swagat Conference Hall was packed to its capacity with relatives and friends from far and near to take part in this special event.

Bishops Gollapalli & Narendra administering vows
Our marriage had been arranged by a friend. Suchitra lived with her parents in a town, 800 km. south east of Hyderabad where I lived. When I went to see her the first time, she was reading a book outside the house. As soon as she saw me and my friend, she ran into the house.
We talked to her family members and were invited to have breakfast with them in the morning.
So we returned the next day with a hope to see her.
Lo and behold, she walked into the room to serve breakfast. But when a houseful of people watching you, it becomes difficult to escape a glance from everyone. By the time it finally happened she was gone, never to come before me again. I had lost my opportunity; I could only see half of her face and trusted the Lord for the other half.

Being helped by Dicku & Kittu at Cake Cutting
The negotiations were completed. I met her finally on our wedding day, beautiful and gorgeous. The Lord honored my trust.
Did you know that we had not taken our marriage vows at our wedding? We were married in a Lutheran church. That’s where Suchitra’s parents attended. The presbyter read out the vows for us as an agreement. We heard those vows from him and became committed to each other.

Dr. Vijay Sharing the Word
But at our Silver wedding, the reading was made from the wedding vows, not the renewal of vows. God knew it, didn’t He? We had not made any vows in the public and we needed to make one. It was such a joy to verbally make those vows before the church, exchange rings and flowers, cut the cake, and enjoy a meal together with those who stood by us over the years. It was also a special time of thanksgiving commemorating God’s love and faithfulness toward us.

A Section of the Audience
Dicku, our eldest son, was in charge of all the logistics; Kittu observed carefully and helped his brother.
“A Journey Together” video presentation was made at the end of the celebration.
All Glory be unto the Lord.

People express appreciation Indian way
Our deep gratitude to friends who pray for us and run alongside to see the vision of the Lord fulfilled in and through our lives.
“WE DO NOT DISCOVER NEW LANDS WITHOUT CONSENTING TO LOSE SIGHT OF THE SHORE FOR A VERY LONG TIME.”
